Evanescence began with Amy Lee(vocalist) and Ben
Moody(ex. guitar). They met at a summer camp as teens, and when
Ben heard Amy playing Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love"
he decided to talk to her and they decided to form a band.
Not having a lot of money they didn't play live
very often. Their first two demos, Sound Asleep and Evanescence,
where only circulated very small for those who went to their rare
shows. The song "Understanding" was aired on the radio
and got a lot of airplay from a local station.
The released their first album "Origin"
the two of them and David Hodges. They didn't circulate many copies
of the album however and used it instead as a demo to send to
bigger record labels, which was what got them their deal with
Wind Up Records.
The First single released off their album they recorded
with Wind up as Their new label was "Bring me to Life"
this was put on the Daredevil soundtrack and go heavy airplay.
Their next biggest singly was "My Immortal" which was
immediately a hit and played on the radios so much no one wants
to hear it anymore.
In October of 2003, Ben Moody left Evanescence.
The cause was his relationship with Amy Lee which had supposedly
gone sour, and they decided it would be best for the band if he
left. To replace him Evanescence hired Terry Balsamo, formerly
of Cold.
In November of 2004 , Evanescence released "Anywhere
But Home" a live album and DVD, that featured a complete
live recording of their Zenith, Paris performance.
In 2006, bassist Will Boyd left the band and was
replaced by Tim McCord, formerly of Revolution Smile. Later that
Year Evanescence released their album "The Open Door"
so very impatiently waited for by fans. The album's first single
"Call me when you're sober" made a substantial mark
on the radio, though it sounds nothing like the rest of the album.
Their second single "Lithium" was just recently released
though I have yet to hear it myself I've heard from others it
has been played.
